  • Overview

    Vinetage Wine Estates, Inc. Barrel Facility is located in the heart of Sonoma, CA. This location is primarily barrel work that includes receiving/shipping of wine, racking, cleaning and tracking barrels. We pride ourselves on maintaining a safe and clean workspace for our employees.

     

    The Cellar Technician II team member will have at least 5 harvests of experience and a complete understanding of all cellar operations and equipment. A person that can lead or assist others based on the need and will be reporting directly to the Cellar Master.

     

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    During Harvest

    • Sorting, crushing and pressing of over 12 different grape varieties
    • Sanitation of all winery equipment
    • Must, juice and wine additions
    • Pump-overs and punch-downs
    • Tank and Press dig-outs and sanitation
    • Barrel maintenance: racking, sulfuring, topping, and stirring
    • Fermentation monitoring

    Outside of Harvest

    • Racking barrel lots
    • Blending of wines for bottling
    • Forklift driving of full barrels
    • Maintaining barrel lots with so2 and topping
    • Continual cleaning and organizing of the cellar
    • Perform other duties as assigned by management

    Safety

    • Lead Safety trainings and orientation
    • Performs Safety Inspections
    • Role model for all cellar employees
    • Assist the Cellar Master with PPE management
    • Confined Space entry supervisor

    • Role model throughout.
    • Speaks up when needed to address short comings or to improve the processes.
    • Lead participation in meetings and shares ideas.
    • Promote the respect of company policies and company property.
    • Coach, praise and correct others as warranted.
    • Assist the Cellar Master with
       Maintenance projects.
       Daily mechanical systems walk-thru.
       Harvest hiring.
       Leading the day/week when the Cellar Master is out.

    • Trains new employees in proper procedures
    • Has the ability to evaluate wines for basic defects
    • Strong math and problem-solving skills
    • Strong communication skills. Able to adjust style as needed to reach the audience
    • Stands for what is right for the wine based on the activity and makes sure that short cuts are not taken. Speaks up when there is an issue
    • Can perform, lead and train others in all wine operation from grape delivery to bottling
    • Assist Cellar Master with
      • Barrel maintenance record keeping
      • New Oak spreadsheet and Barrel Maintenance spreadsheet
      • Tank gassing list
      • Developing SOP
    •   Strong knowledge of Cooperage, barrel care and the ability to repair basic leaks.

    Productivity

    • Always thinking ahead of the current project
    • Always considering the other projects that are happening in the cellar and adapting to promote the successful completion of all the projects
    • Can find information in NAV to promote the workflow
    • Can print barrel stickers
    • Assists Cellar Master with
      • Creation of BOL for wine and non-wine activity
      • The proper receival of goods including documentation
      • The receival documentation and bar coding of new Oak
      • Chemical inventory
      • Planning of the next day
      • Develops and promotes efficiency improvement without compromising quality
      • Leads the nightshift team during Harvest
      • Weighmaster

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • A strong level of organizational skills
    • Commitment to excellence and high standards
    • Must be capable of working independently while managing multiple tasks at once
    • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Knowledge of wines and wine production

    • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work in an evolving environment with enthusiasm
    • Has basic computer skills, Excel, Word 

    PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to bend, squat, climb, push, stoop and crouch repeatedly
    • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods as required by job duties
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis

    • Proper PPE must be worn at all times
